Tree Jacket

After months of my Tree Jacket sitting in a bag, one sleeve half way finished. I finally sat down and finished it today! I had been not too happy with the sleeves thus far. They looked huge and I was growing impatient with stockinette stitch. After showing it to my cousin, Ruthie, she suggested just making it short sleeved. Genius! This morning I ripped out all but two inches of the sleeve, did k1p1 ribbing for three rows, and bound off. Easy, and beautiful! If I had been motivated, I probably would have put more thought into making thinner long sleeves, but with the weather changing, I can wear this sweater now! I am not huge fan of the yarn, (Sorry Lion Brand, you're cheap), but the color is pretty and it will be easy to take care of. So, without further adieu, I present: the Tree Jacket.

Tree Jacket from Zephyr Style

Needles: sz 8 round

Yarn: Lion Brand Wool-Ease in Dark Rose Heather (4 skeins, I believe)

Alterations: after finishing the body ala the pattern, I knit in stockinette for 2inches, then did 3 rows of k1p1 ribbing. I then bound off for pretty short sleeves.

Flight of the Conchords

I am going to see Flight of the Conchords tonight and I am super pumped. Craig saw them in PA a little while ago and said that lots of people went up and gave them presents. One person gave them their tour shirt signed by the audience members! This gave me an idea....I wanted to make something that was original and that they might put in their TV show.

After some thinking, I realized that something small and knit would be perfect. I had just finished a mobile with birds for my future cousin. While I was knitting them, my friends were obsessed with the birds alone. So, I decided to make them their own birds. But not just any birds, birds made to look like them.

This was harder than it sounds. First, I had to decide what to have them look like. What clothing should they be wearing? I decided upon their most well known picture, the one with the big heads. Jermaine would be wearing his blue jean suit, and Bret his red plaid shirt and jeans. I couldn't forget their hair, Bret's beard, and Jermaine's glasses.

After figuring out how to to knit two blocks of color on my own, and sewing in their hair, etc. They are finished. Here are some pictures from this morning's photo shoot.

Now, if only I could figure out how to knit small guitars for the birds to hold....

socks?

I finished my first pair of socks this week. I was not totally sure about the idea of knitted socks. I am very particular about what I put on my feet. I was afraid they would be uncomfortable, fall down, etc. But I finishe dmy first pair (and after some advice from Liz), I love them! I changed the cast-off to the Sewn Bind-Off and they stay up and aren't too tight. They look super cute in my Mary Janes (albiet the shoes need some cleaning of their own). Maybe I'll knit another pair of socks, something warm and luscious for the upcoming Maine winter. Suggestions anyone?

Absinthe Socks
Yarn: ShubuiKnits Sock Yarn in Mulberry
Needles: Sz 1

Next on the docket? A blue Pioneer Top made with O-Wool in Cornflower. The yarn is super delicious and soft. I just hope I can figure out the pattern! (It's not written in the most clear fashion.)

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week. It is a tradition in my school for the parents to get together and have little tokens of appreciation every day to thank us. After 153 days of tough times, rediculous behavior, and lots of sleepless nights, I am on the way to being appreciated.

Today's celebration:
