Bulky Nalgene Cozy

Craig has been making huge Nalgenes of tea at night and the plastic gets hot. I used my mason jar cozy as a template for a Nalgene cozy.

Bulky Nalgene Cozy



Materials:

-size 13 circular needles (or dpn)-bulky weight yarn (I used Lion Brand Thick and Quick)-stitch marker-tapestry needle


Directions:CO 20 sts, pm, and join in the round using your prefered method (I like magic loop).
Rows 1-2: Knit 1x1 ribbing (K1, P1 around)
Rows 3-26: Knit
Row 27: Purl
Row 28: *Knit 3, k2tog* repeat to the end of the row (16 sts)Row 29: *Knit 2, k2tog* repeat to the end of the row (12 sts)Row 30: Knit Row 31: *Knit 1, k2tog* repeat to the end of the row (8 sts)Row 32: *K2tog* repeat to the end of the row (4 sts)
Break yarn, and using the tapestry needle, pull the yarn through the stitches and tie off.
Weave ends in.

12 oz Mason Jar Cozy

I quit coffee. Yes.  I did it. On January 11, 2013 I had my last 3 sips of coffee. I haven't looked back. Well, I look every day at my husband drinking his coffee. I miss the taste, but I have been sleeping better and I like not needing the caffeine. I do miss drinking something rich and warm in the morning. So I have switched to Peppermint Tea (or Throat Coat since I've been sick). I have a nice box in my desk at school and we have one of those Poland Springs water coolers that actually makes hot water immediately (!!). So every morning I have been making myself tea for the last 3 months.

Somehow I got my hands on a mason jar and decided to use that. We have mugs at school, but I like the mason jar. It's bigger and I can see how strong the tea is. Unfortunately, the glass conducts heat so well. I have to carry the jar by the lip back to my classroom. It is a dangerous endeavor. This is why I came up with the idea of a cozy for my mason jar. I have seen them for mugs, tea pots, beer bottles, why not mason jars?

This pattern is quick and easy. It took me very little time and uses very little yarn. The pattern below shows you how to make the colored pattern I did. Create your own stripes, colorwork, cables, etc. I will give you the basic pattern without stripes at the end.

Materials:

-size 7 circular needles (or dpn)
-aran weight yarn (I used scraps of Istex Lett-Lopi in 2 colors: Tan is MC, Green is CC)
-stitch markers
-tapestry needle

Directions:
CO 32 sts in CC, pm, and join in the round using your prefered method (I like magic loop).

Rows 1-5: Knit 2x2 ribbing (K2, P2 around)
Attach MC and break CC leaving a tail to weave in.
Rows 6-15: Knit in MC. Attach CC.
Rows 16-17: Knit in CC
Rows 18-19: Knit in MC
Row 20: Knit in CC
Rows 21-22: Knit in MC
Rows 23-24: Knit in CC. Break CC leaving a tail.
Rows 25-34: Knit in MC. Join CC and break MC leaving a tail.
Rows 35-39: Knit 2x2 ribbing in CC.
Row 40: Purl
Row 41: Knit
Row 42: *Knit 6, k2tog* repeat to the end of the row (28 sts)
Row 43: *Knit 5, k2tog* repeat to the end of the row (24 sts)
Row 44: *Knit 4, k2tog* repeat to the end of the row (20 sts)
Row 45: *Knit 3, k2tog* repeat to the end of the row (16 sts)
Row 46: *Knit 2, k2tog* repeat to the end of the row (12 sts)
Row 47: *Knit 1, k2tog* repeat to the end of the row (8 sts)

Break yarn, and using the tapestry needle, pull the yarn through the stitches and tie off.

Knot all tails and weave ends in.

Row 46: *Knit 2, k2tog* repeat to the end of the row (12 sts)
Row 47: *Knit 1, k2tog* repeat to the end of the row (8 sts)


Break yarn, and using the tapestry needle, pull the yarn through the stitches and tie off.


Weave in ends.

Mossy Kindle Envelope

I made this for my grandmother for Xmas since I gave away the one I made her back in May. This took about 4 hours to knit up while watching TV. :)

Materials:

Size 8 needles

Noro Kochoran

4 buttons

Tapestry needle

Notes:

Moss Stitch is 4 rows repeated. Odd rows are RS, even rows are WS.

1: [K1, P1] repeated to end

2 - 3: [P1, K1] repeated to end

4: [K1, P1] repeated to end

Directions:

CO 28 sts

Knit in Moss st for 12” ending on WS row (Row 4).

Buttonhole Row (RS): K1, P1, K1, P1, K2tog, YO, K1, P1, K1, P1, K2tog, YO, K1, P1, K1, P1, K2tog, YO, K1, P1, K1, P1, K2tog, YO, K1, P1, K1, P1 (28 sts)

Next Row (WS): [K1, P1] repeat until end.

Continue in Moss Stitch for 1 more inch. Bind off and weave in ends.

Fold rectangle at the 5” mark from the beginning of the rectangle. Sew up the sides and weave in ends. Turn the bag inside out to hide stitching. Attach 4 buttons behind the buttonholes.

Insert Kindle and enjoy!

Craig's Slippers

On this snow day, I sat down to knit my husband a pair of slippers he requested a long time ago. We looked through the Ravelry database and couldn't find anything with the boxy shape that he liked. I had already bought some Lion Brand Thick and Quick in Charcoal, so I sat down to shape him a slipper that would fit and be warm for the rest of this Maine winter. Bonus with the yarn, it's machine washable, so when it gets caked with animal hair (of which we have 2), it can get thrown in the wash and come out looking like new!

Craig's Slippers

Materials:
1 skein of Lion Brand Thick and Quick
Size 10.5 circular needles
stich marker
tapestry needle

CO 11 sts.
Rows 1-25: Knit in garter stitch
26: SSK, K to the last 2 sts, K2tog
27 - 32: Knit all
33: K6, turn, sl 1, k3, turn, sl 1, Knit to the end.
34 - 78: K all
79: SSK, K to last 2 sts, k2tog
80 - 84: K all
85: K3, SSK, K2
86 - 92: K all
BO

From Short Row along sole, pick up 30 to BO row, pick up 6 sts along back of heel and then 30 sts along other side of sole. This could be done in two parts and sewn up the back…
1 - 6: K all
7: BO 13 sts, K 40 sts, BO 13 sts

Pick up 10 sts from the top of the toe bed on your left-hand needle and join yarn leaving a long tail. PM (50 sts)
1: P 29, SSP, P2tog, P19 (48 sts)
2: K 28, SSK, K2tog, K18 (46 sts)
3: P 27, SSP, P2tog, P17 (44 sts)

Finishing: Using the tails, sew up sides of toe bed and sew in all ends. Trim and enjoy!

If you have smaller or larger feet, add or remove rows between 34 and 78. My husband has size 10 feet (mens). That equates to about 10" of foot.

I have absolutely fallen in love with this pattern! I knit 3 last night, one purple, one green (shown), and one white and sparkly. It has inspired me to create my own mustache patterns. 12 in all. I just have to figure out how to share a document or pdf on blogspot. Cut and copy just doesn't do it.
